19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been won on hard courts
A resurgent Medvedev won his maiden trophy for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the American major.
Medvedev's unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his service game in particular - caused him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with former coach Gilles Cervara.
Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually improved in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought competitive win over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.
It is Medvedev's first championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt from spring of that year.
Success also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct tournaments.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a tournament with my children simultaneously, so to win a championship is really nice," stated tennis professional the champion.
"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his last six title deciders, comprising in Halle earlier this year.
Medvedev's defensive approach and regular emotional displays on court had led some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.
However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform positively, reinforced by an improved serve.
He recovered from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking 4 of the final five games to go ahead.
Both players exchanged breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour championship, gained dominance to push for a decider.
He rescued four initial chances in a tight third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to secure the win.
Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
